Wetland at Arrowhead Primary School, Spring 2000

The Nature Zone Project at

Copley’s Arrowhead Primary School

In spring of 1999, Panzner Wetland Services, LLC, agreed to participate in the construction and design of a quarter acre wetland as part of the Nature Zone project at Arrowhead.

After studying the hydrology (the way water flows over or through) in the site chosen for Nature Zone, a bi-level depression was filled with 600 cu yards of restoration soil (containing wetland seeds and microorganisms) from PWWR. A system, including a dike and swale, maintains the newly created wetland’s hydration.

Creating a Living Laboratory

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of local Copley resident Steve Flight, the project coordinator in charge of the pond and wetland, the enthusiasm of Arrowhead teachers, and volunteers like Boy Scout troop #382, PWWR and Panzner Wetland Services were able to bring a living laboratory to the students of Arrowhead Primary School.

Our Commitment to Education

We have opened PWWR, itself, as a living laboratory. The reserve already serves as a place of study for local colleges Kent State University and The University of Akron.

We proudly commit ourselves to promoting understanding and research of Ohio’s wetland environments and invite local schools and colleges to take advantage of our vast living laboratory. View application for research and how to apply.
